Transdev Proudly Celebrates National Safety Month: Safety First, Safety Always
Safety is the foundation of what Transdev is, how we operate, and how we serve our communities every single day – especially during National Safety Month. Safety is ingrained in our identity year-round, and this month gives us a special opportunity to spotlight the people, practices, and passion that make our safety culture strong.
Across the country, our teams continue to demonstrate what a true safety-first mindset looks like in action. Whether in a small school bus operation in upstate New York or a large paratransit system navigating the high desert of Southern California, our employees prove that when safety is prioritized, excellence follows.
A Culture Built on Responsibility and Care
From the moment a new employee joins Transdev, safety is introduced as a shared responsibility. It’s a commitment we make to one another, to our passengers, and to the communities we serve.
Locations like Plattsburgh, NY, led by General Manager Heather Manor, embody this philosophy. With a strong team of 24 employees, they have achieved more than 350 Perfect Safety Days, showing that size doesn’t determine success, but the culture does. Their approach centers on:
- Treating safety as a daily, collective responsibility
- Maintaining open communication and trust
- Reinforcing safe habits through consistent coaching and training
- Keeping safety visible and top-of-mind through weekly materials and reminders
Manor often reminds her team that their buses are “rolling billboards” for Transdev. Every safe decision behind the wheel reflects our values and our brand.
Safety Excellence in Challenging Conditions
On the opposite side of the country, the LA Access Antelope Valley Paratransit team has surpassed 360 Perfect Safety Days while operating in one of the most demanding environments in our network. High winds, sudden weather shifts, and elevation changes require constant vigilance.
General Manager Victor Garate and Assistant General Manager Katie Menendez have built a safety program rooted in:
- Structured, ongoing training from day one
- Frequent check-ins and recertifications
- Creative engagement tools like safety blitzes and interactive activities
- Transparent communication that empowers operators to make safe decisions
Their success shows that when employees feel supported, informed, and engaged, safety becomes second nature, even in the toughest conditions.
Leadership, Engagement, and Continuous Improvement
What unites these locations – and so many others across Transdev – is a shared belief that safety is never “finished.” It’s a living, evolving commitment that requires:
- Strong, visible leadership
- Consistent monitoring and coaching
- Open dialogue and employee involvement
- A willingness to adapt, improve, and innovate
Monthly safety meetings, ride-alongs, ergonomic improvements, and hands-on evaluations all contribute to a culture where employees feel heard, valued, and responsible for one another’s well-being.
Celebrating National Safety Month Every Month
National Safety Month gives us a moment to celebrate the incredible work happening across our contracts, but our dedication doesn’t begin or end in June. Safety is woven into every route we take, every passenger we assist, and every decision we make.
The achievements in Plattsburgh and Antelope Valley are powerful reminders of what’s possible when teams embrace our Purpose and live our Safety First mindset. Their success inspires all of us to stay diligent, stay engaged, and stay committed to protecting our people and our communities.
At Transdev, safety isn’t a program. It’s our culture. It’s our promise. And it’s who we are today, tomorrow, and every day after.
