Transdev to Continue Operating DART First State Transit Services in Sussex County Through Contract Renewal
Transdev will continue providing transit operations for the Delaware Transit Corporation’s (DTC) DART First State services in Sussex County following the award of a contract renewal that began June 18, 2026.
The new agreement includes a three-year base term with an option for a one-year extension, continuing a partnership that supports public transportation throughout Delaware’s southernmost county.
Under the contract, Transdev will operate DART’s fixed route, paratransit, and microtransit services across Sussex County. The operation includes approximately 40 fixed route vehicles, seven paratransit vehicles, and four microtransit vehicles, supported by a workforce of more than 75 employees and three operating facilities.

One of the most distinctive aspects of the Sussex County operation is DART’s annual Resort Transit service, which provides enhanced transportation access to Delaware’s popular beach destinations during the summer tourism season. Each year, service levels increase by approximately 30% between Memorial Day and Labor Day to accommodate significantly higher ridership demand.
Supporting that seasonal expansion requires extensive planning and workforce coordination. In addition to year-round employees, Transdev supplements staffing through returning seasonal operators, local recruitment efforts, and transportation professionals from other company operations whose schedules are reduced during the summer months. The company typically adds approximately 30 operators to support peak-season service.
The renewed agreement also positions Transdev to continue supporting DART’s broader mobility initiatives, including the operation of electric buses and flexible transportation options designed to improve access and connectivity throughout Sussex County.
