When wildfires swept through Los Angeles County in January 2025, the Pasadena Transit team—operated by Transdev—was called to act in ways far beyond their normal duties. Bus operators and dispatchers, not trained as first responders like firefighters, EMTs, or police officers, found themselves on the front lines of a daunting evacuation effort. Their courage and determination made all the difference for the community they serve.
During the Eaton Fire, what began as a single request for help quickly escalated into multiple emergency missions. Operators, escorted by law enforcement, navigated through smoke and fire-threatened neighborhoods to evacuate senior citizens and bring them to safety. Dispatchers worked around the clock, with some staying on duty for more than 36 consecutive hours to coordinate trips and ensure every call for help was answered. To meet the urgent needs of the community, fixed-route service was temporarily suspended so that Dial-a-Ride vehicles could be used to support evacuations and provide access to critical appointments.
”The courage and dedication displayed by our Pasadena Transit team during these devastating wildfires exemplify the very best of Transdev. Their unwavering commitment to their community, even while facing daunting circumstances, is truly inspiring. We stand by our employees in their time of need and remain committed to supporting them as they rebuild.
Laura HendricksCEO of Transdev U.S.
In the aftermath, Transdev employees across the country came together to support their colleagues. Through donations and fundraising, more than $60,000 was raised to assist team members directly impacted by the wildfires—an outpouring of solidarity that reflects the compassion and unity at the heart of the Transdev family.
As the area continues to recover, we remain committed to supporting our employees and the community they serve. The actions of the Pasadena Transit team are a reminder that even in the most difficult moments, humanity, courage, and compassion prevail.
