Transdev’s WeRIDE Microtransit Recognized as Top 50 Global Smart Award Recipient
Transdev is excited to announce that our WeRIDE Microtransit service in Avondale, Arizona has been recognized as a 2023 Top 50 Smart City Award recipient.
Our WeRIDE Microtransit service was launched just six months ago to address a transportation demand issue. Data from a Maricopa Association of Governments 2021 study looked at current transit services, population, employment conditions and projected future growth of the Avondale, AZ and Goodyear, AZ areas and found that a gap in mobility options existed.
Our proposed approach (WeRIDE Microtransit) supported the Cities’ goals of providing an on-demand Microtransit service that met the needs of existing fixed route service customers in Avondale, AZ, help improve service to low density areas and offer a mobility option for riders in Goodyear, AZ. Since its inception, the service has taken off and continues to grow.
Based on the teams great work, the project was nominated for the Top 50 Global Smart Award. Each year, the awards honor and celebrate the 50 most transformative smart projects from around the world, which help improve the quality of life within a city.
This year’s honorees, who are recognized for their innovative and influential work, represent a cross-section of the U.S., and also include representatives from Canada, China, Germany, Japan, Norway, Spain and Taiwan.
The top 3 project winners will be announced on May 15, 2023 at the Smart Cities Connect Conference in Denver, CO.
