Transdev Awarded Microtransit Feasibility Pilot for Los Angeles Metro

Transdev, a leading global provider of multi-modal mobility solutions, is pleased to announce that the company has been selected to examine the feasibility of delivering a microtransit pilot designed to enhance transportation options for The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro).

The feasibility study will last six months. Transdev will use its demonstrated leadership in mobility technology—harnessed from success with an on-demand microtransit solutions in Tampa, Fla. and other operations around the world—to determine ideal locations for potential supplemental service. Transdev will partner with AECOM, which has supported Metro for more than 60 years, and has provided transportation planning, engineering, and environmental services to Metro on several multi-modal transportation projects for more than 10 years.

Transdev also operates select bus routes and paratransit services for LA Metro. The Transdev team has experience working with Metro through multiple stages of project delivery, from planning to construction to operations.

“Los Angeles has become one of the most progressive, forward-thinking cities focused on addressing the questions of mobility for the 21st century,” said Dick Alexander, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Innovation at Transdev. “We’ve always been honored to be a part of moving Los Angeles residents and visitors and are excited to begin this next chapter of developing new options for passengers. We’re thrilled to be selected and looking forward to delivering results that could help shape how Angelenos move through the city for decades to come.”

Microtransit opportunities are arising as cities look to meet the transit demands of the next century. Transdev is a staunch advocate for public transit solutions and continually seeks to develop microtransit options that have the potential to increase public transit ridership and replace heavily subsidized, low-demand routes with enhance on-demand service.

Currently, Transdev operates the HyperLINK microtransit first-and-last-mile service in Tampa, Fla., a fully ADA accessible platform that allows passengers to book subsidized rides to and from targeted bus stations using an app or a call center. Around the world, Transdev operates five additional first/last-mile services on behalf of our transit agency clients.

In a commitment to diversity and community inclusion, the company is proud to name Arellano Associates, Wilson Sparling & Associates, and the VIRTEK Company as members of the project team. All three have extensive experience with Metro and in Los Angeles and will play an integral part of the study.
