Transdev Completes Acquisition of First Transit to Become Leading Private Operator of Transportation in the U.S.
We are proud to announce that our acquisition of First Transit is officially complete – following all the necessary regulatory approvals. As of today, Transdev and First Transit are part of the same company and will operate under the Transdev brand moving forward.
This transaction makes Transdev the leading operator of safe, cost-effective and environmentally-friendly public transportation services in the U.S., across a variety of transit modes, including fixed route bus systems, paratransit, shuttle services, rail, light rail and fleet maintenance.
“One of the great elements of this transaction is that it enhances Transdev’s ability to support public transit authorities in the U.S. in their energy transition towards decarbonization, as we continue to provide affordable mobility solutions to our local communities,” commented Laura J. Hendricks, CEO Transdev U.S.
The acquisition supports Transdev’s global “Moving Green” strategy, which targets a 30% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and a 50% increase in its alternative fuel fleets (gas, biogas, biofuels, electric, hydrogen) by 2030 (compared to 2018 numbers).
Transdev’s newly expanded entity in the U.S. now includes operations in 43 states (including Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico). The company now serves 400 cities and communities, operates 17,300 vehicles, 340 of which are electric, and has an expanded workforce of 32,000.
“We look forward to integrating our new colleagues into Transdev and showing our new and existing clients and partners how, together, we will continue to deliver on our Purpose to empower the freedom to move through safe, reliable and innovative solutions that serve the common good,” added Hendricks.
