Transdev Expands Operating Footprint in New York
Transdev, a global leader in multi-modal mobility solutions—is pleased to announce that the Rockland County (New York) Legislature voted unanimously to select Transdev as the new operator for the Transport of Rockland (TOR) fixed-route bus system.
As part of the new contract, Transdev is proposing a planning study to examine potential first- and last-mile solutions to increase ridership. Additional features of the five-year deal include the implementation of Transdev’s proprietary customer service and feedback platform, LISTEN.
“We have every expectation that Transdev will provide first-rate service as the new contractor operating the TOR system,” said Rockland County Executive Ed Day. “I look forward to the enhancements and improved efficiency of the TOR service that Transdev will soon be implementing to the great benefit of our riders. County government will continue to tightly assess TOR operations to ensure the utmost and best service is provided to the people of Rockland and anyone else utilizing the service.”
The company begins operations of the 10-route, 43-bus system on Nov. 1. Transdev will work with existing staff—both unionized and non-union—during the transition to ensure employee continuity.
The new contract will enhance the company’s footprint in Metro New York. Next month, Transdev will begin operations of a state-of-the-art commuter bus network—the New York State Department of Transportation’s Hudson Link service—connecting Rockland and Westchester counties via the Mario Cuomo Bridge. The company also operates a key contract in Nassau County, Long Island where Transdev serves as the delegated transit agency providing more than 30 million passenger trips per year.
“This is such a great win for the company and, honestly, for TOR passengers,” said Mike Setzer, President of Transdev’s Transit business unit. “We are going to be introducing new technology directly to riders and behind the scenes that will help this system evolve to meet growing demands. We can’t wait to start.”
