Introducing Mobileye® 8 Connect™

Safety Corner

We have made the decision to partner with Mobileye® to complement and enhance our safety culture.

Mobileye is a subsidiary of Intel corporation that develops vision-based collision mitigation systems for the autonomous vehicle industry and advanced driver-assistance systems providing warnings for collision prevention and mitigation. Mobileye is the only manufacturer that meets NHTSA’s established guidelines for forward collision and traffic lane departure warnings.

Here are some of the key features that impress us about Mobileye® 8 Connect™:

  • The system incorporates comprehensive real-time warnings and alerts through a single, forward-facing vision sensor via audible and visual alerts.
  • The vision sensor constantly monitors the road ahead for pedestrians, cyclists, road dangers, and other vehicles.
  • This latest version – Mobileye®8 Connect™ – now incorporates Mobileye’s latest “chip set IQ4” which enables nighttime pedestrian detection.
  • The device’s algorithms continuously calculate “time to collision”.
  • When a collision or danger is imminent, visual and audible alerts warn our drivers.
    • These alerts enable our drivers to regain focus and make the necessary correction in sufficient time to avoid potential collisions or to mitigate their severity.
    • The device has the advantage of never becoming fatigued or distracted.

Here’s what the alerts look like:

Mobileye’s vision-based system mounts conveniently to the windshield. We started installations in Q1 of 2021.

We look forward to offering our operators this well-tested tool to help keep them even safer on the roads.
