Hispanic Heritage Month Spotlight: Federico Peña , Transportation Leader

Safety Corner

As we continue to shine a spotlight on transit leaders in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, we shine a light on Frederico Peña, a transportation trailblazer.  From his early years as a Denver politician to his impactful roles in the Clinton administration, Peña led projects and policies designed to update and expand transit systems across the United States.

Peña served as a state legislator before becoming the first Hispanic mayor of Denver, Colorado. During his two terms, Peña started one of the biggest public works projects in the nation: the construction of the Denver International Airport (DIA).

Peña’s success in Denver caught the attention of President Bill Clinton, who named him the Secretary of Transportation in 1993.  He was responsible for supervising different transportation modes, including airplanes, highways, railroads, and public transit.

Transdev is proud to celebrate the contributions of Frederico Peña in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month!
