Safety Corner

Transdev is proud to recognize Garland Powell, who has been chosen as the Maryland Transit Administration’s 2025 Operator of the Year in Baltimore. Selected from more than 1,000 operators systemwide, Powell stands out for his professionalism, reliability, and strong customer service.

Powell joined Transdev in 2014 and brings a disciplined, mission‑focused approach shaped by his military background. His record speaks for itself:

  • 0 DriveCam events
  • 0 safety accidents
  • 0 missed workdays

Passengers often praise him for his polite, caring attitude, and coworkers know him as humble, dependable, and a true example of Transdev’s values: Care, Share, Dare, and Deliver.

After being named Operator of the Quarter, Powell was selected as Transdev’s nominee for Operator of the Year. His consistent, customer‑first mindset made him the clear choice.

“The honor of being selected out of more than 1,000 operators is tremendous,” said Rebecca Proctor, General Manager for the Transdev Baltimore MTA contract.

The Transdev Baltimore MTA team continues to build a strong culture of recognition through Employee Appreciation Week, internal celebrations, and acknowledgment of operators who receive positive rider feedback. Mobility Change Makers also receive personal letters from the CEO.

Powell’s contributions go beyond his daily route. He has supported several startup locations, helped the Bridgeport, Connecticut, team during a driver shortage, and provided operational support at other Transdev sites. His professionalism and respectful approach make him a trusted partner wherever he goes.

Despite the recognition, Powell remains humble, often saying, “I don’t need any of this because I know you appreciate me.”

His modesty and genuine care for others are a big part of why he earned this award.

Transdev congratulates Garland Powell on this outstanding achievement and appreciates the Maryland Transit Administration for honoring the operators who keep the region moving safely every day. With more than 14 years of service, he continues to lead by example.
