Staying Aware #7: Driver Distraction

Safety Corner

Being cognizant of distracted driving tendencies and distracted drivers is our next “Staying Aware” sub-topic.

Did you know there are main types of distractions that cause delayed reactions:

  • Visual: taking your eyes off the road
  • Manual: taking your hands off the wheel
  • Cognitive: taking your mind off of driving

Don’t be a distracted driver!

And, if you notice a distracted driver – someone who may be eating, failing to maintain a consistent speed, looking down to text or hitting their brakes frequently – try to safely get out of their way by either slowing down to let them pass or carefully passing them. If you observe a distracted driver who is potential endangering others and they are difficult to avoid them on the road, call 911.
