September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. This month reminds us that mental health matters and help is always close by.
Why Suicide Awareness Matters
According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC):
- More than 48,000 people in the United States died by suicide in 2024.
- Suicide is one of the leading causes of death in the U.S.
- 1 suicide happens every 11 minutes in the U.S.
- More than 14.3 million people think about taking their own lives every year.
Know the Signs
- Look for signs of sadness, pulling away, or big mood changes
- Talk openly and show care if someone seems sad.
- Share support resources so no one feels alone.
Taking these small steps can save someone’s life.
