Rafael Ayala started working as a mechanic in 1988. He worked hard and quickly became a manager two years later. He currently serves as Director of Maintenance in San Diego, California, where he oversees both the Chula Vista and El Cajon facilities.
His team was the first to use CNG buses, and now they are in the process of switching to electric buses. Rafael helps lead these big changes and makes sure his team has what they need to do a great job.
His door is always open for his team, and he helps his workers learn and grow. He says, “If you make a mistake, I’ll back you up.” People love working with him so much, they do not want to leave.
One of his proudest moments is passing every safety check with no problems. His advice to new mechanics: “Don’t cut corners. Do it right.”
Rafael loves his job, but he’s also excited to retire someday soon and possibly start something new. He says the challenges keep things exciting, and he is always ready for the next one.
Please join us in congratulating Rafeal Ayala on celebrating 37 years of mobility excellence!
