Safety Tip: Have Patience When Navigating Intersections

Safety Corner

As Halloween approaches, it’s important to stay extra cautious when navigating intersections. With more pedestrians on the streets, particularly children in costumes, it’s critical to prioritize safety. Here are some essential tips:

For Drivers:

  • Never speed through intersections. Even if the light is green, slow down and be prepared to stop for pedestrians or other unexpected obstacles.
  • Maintain a safe distance from pedestrians crossing the street. Give them plenty of time and space.
  • Use your turn signals to clearly communicate your intentions to other drivers and pedestrians.
  • Be patient. Rushing increases the risk of accidents, especially in busy areas.

For Pedestrians:

  • Cross only when it’s safe. Wait for a proper signal, and look both ways before stepping into the street.
  • Give vehicles room to turn and be cautious, especially with larger vehicles that have a wider turning radius.
  • Make eye contact with drivers to ensure they see you, particularly when crossing busy intersections.

Whether you’re behind the wheel or on foot, stay alert and aware. Intersections are a shared space—let’s work together to keep them safe for everyone!
