As our weather changes (for the better in most places across the country), we all need to adapt / change our driving habits and become even more aware of cyclists and an increased number of pedestrians on the road.

At times, driving itself can be stressful or life’s changes can add unwanted stress. To help manage your stress while driving try planning ahead, leaving a bit earlier, avoid driving when angry, turning off your phone and listening to your favorite music. Who knows – these little tips might make a difference.

April is Distracted Driving Month. It provides a great opportunity to remind us to always stay focused while driving and avoid distractions. When you change your focus – that’s when accidents can happen.

Our next “Adapting to Change” sub-topic to support our March/April Health & Safety theme focuses on changes in the weather. March is known for its changing weather. Road conditions can change from morning to afternoon, therefore it's important anticipate all potential issues when driving.

Some of the most skilled drivers still need some assistance from a spotter as they move their vehicle. Large vehicles, like our buses and shuttles, often have blind spots and it is helpful to have someone outside who can safely scan the area and alert the driver of any changing conditions.

This “Adapting to Change” sub-topic focuses on the importance of always being aware of the fixed objects around us. Many of our accidents are occurring as mirrors are getting clipped when trying to “squeeze by”. These types of accidents are 100% avoidable.

Our first “Adapting to Change” sub-topic highlights things to remember now that we’ve moved our clocks ahead one hour. With more people out enjoying longer days, it’s important to be extra vigilant while driving. Also, be aware of the effects the time change can have on your body.
