Black History Month: Celebrating African American Transportation Innovators

Safety Corner

As Black History Month enters its last week, we want to highlight some achievements and contributions of African American change-makers.

Each achievement is important to recognize and celebrate for its impact on the transportation industry.

Check out this video where we acknowledge African American innovators like Garrett Morgan (the inventor of the yellow light), the founders of the Safe Bus Company and Richard Spikes (the inventor of car directional signals and the automatic brake system used in school buses).
