With Employee Appreciation Week in full swing, we are shining a spotlight on JoAnn Satterwhite, who is celebrating 45 years of service as an operator at our North Carolina University Wolfline location.
Fast Facts about Joann Satterwhite:

- She achieved her first Million Miles Safe Driver pin while driving for the city’s transit service.
- JoAnn grew up on a farm where she learned to drive a tractor at an early age.
JoAnn learned to drive big vehicles when she was young and started driving a bus in Raleigh, N.C., in 1977. She was the city’s first female bus operator. That came with its own set of challenges—from figuring out which restroom to use to dealing with tough situations involving riders and coworkers.
JoAnn did not allow any challenge she faced to get in the way of doing her job well. While being a bus operator in Raleigh, she earned her first Million Miles Safe Driver pin and was promoted to a supervisor role. She retired after 35 years of service for the City of Raleigh, but returned as an operator for the Wolfline location in 2015.
