Let’s Recognize Our Interns on National Intern Day (July 25)

Safety Corner

Did you know that National Intern Day is the last Thursday in July? This means tomorrow (July 25, 2024) is the day.

National Intern Day launched in 2017 by WayUp, a job site designed college students and recent graduates and since then it has taken off.

We are fortunate to have three interns working for us this year – two in operations and one in IT at our Lombard corporate office.

We asked each of them these three questions below to get to know them a bit better:

  • What drew you to pursue an internship with Transdev?
  • What has been the most interesting, significant, or impactful thing you’ve learned or experienced in your role as an intern with Transdev?
  • What effect do you feel your experience with Transdev will have as you continue your education and pursue your career?

Let’s meet them and see how each of them answered one of the questions:

What drew you to pursue an internship with Transdev?

“I applied to Transdev because it is an international company with core values that I am aligned with. I’ve always wanted to help as many people as possible through the work that I do, so being able to protect the employees and clients from cyber threats is a very rewarding experience.”

– Dave Butler, Senior, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign – Information Sciences

What has been the most interesting, significant, or impactful thing you’ve learned or experienced in your role as an intern with Transdev?

“My internship with Transdev started on July 1st. In these last few weeks, I’ve been tasked with exploring and shadowing people in different departments. I still have a lot to learn, but I have really enjoyed understanding how each person here contributes to make the company function successfully. Without one person, the flow stops working, so to see everyone bring their best every day to all achieve one big goal of serving the community has been a really significant thing for me to see and understand. I’m excited to continue learning!”

– Jai Pesl – University of California, Davis

What effect do you feel your experience with Transdev will have as you continue your education and pursue your career?

“I am still learning in my day-to-day life and now I’m doing more hands-on work through this internship. Far from the essays that have little meaning outside of the class, the work I do for Transdev will remain when my internship ends.

Transdev has taught me how to navigate a professional working environment with people I would rarely see in my personal life. This company has shown me how a public transit company works from every angle, not just from a driver’s perspective. Because I hope to pursue a career in public transit long-term, the skills and knowledge I’ve gained from this internship will empower me to be a better employee for any transit company.”

– Joanna Sodke: Graduated: B.A. History, University of California, Davis
