Heart Month: Keep Moving

Safety Corner

Our final heart healthy tip for February Heart Month talks about the importance of physical activity and the need to keep moving through the day.

Physical activity is a great way to help protect your heart from heart disease. Keep your heart healthy and aim for at least 2 1/2 hours of moderate physical activity every week. Doing heart healthy activities with a friend will keep both of you inspired for the long run.

Here are some ideas:

  • Take an online fitness class together, like yoga or join an exercise class at your local community center (going together helps ensure you both show up)
  • Commit to a walking schedule with a friend or family member; even if you can’t walk together schedule a common time and keep each other accountable
  • If you enjoy the outdoors, try hiking, biking, golfing, tennis or gardening
  • Join a sports league in your community; regularly scheduled games of basketball, soccer, tennis will help ensure you stay accountable (don’t want to let your teammates down)
