Andy Dybel Set To Retire After 31 Years With Transdev

Safety Corner

Andy Dybel, our VP of Finance, will be retiring after 31 years with Transdev. His last day will be February 16, 2024.

Andy has seen many evolutions of the company since he joined Transdev (then Vancom) as a contractor in August  1992. Each step of the way, learning and contributing more to the success of Transdev. He jokes that he never understood why it took five months as a contractor before he was hired into his first permanent role, as a regional controller, in January 1993. In 2001, he became Vice President of Finance and Controller and has made a positive impact on our various businesses and regions ever since, including in his current role as VP of Finance for Growth Businesses.

When asked about what he’s most proud of, without hesitation, Andy talks about developing  the TANGO report, starting back in 1995. That report, which is still used today, was the start of Transdev’s deep dive into performance / KPI reporting. The report was referred to, by the CEO at the time, as a dance between finance and operations (hence the name). There wasn’t a prouder moment for Andy than when the TANGO report was rolled out to the entire company – worldwide in 2014.

Andy shares that, over the years, he feels it’s been technology that has influenced and changed the transportation industry the most. Obviously, the tech influence on autonomous vehicles and the new skill sets our mechanics need to work on our fleets are impactful, but so is the growing amount of information and data we can now track and analyze that help our operations succeed. He believes that properly leveraging all the data we collect, like the operator efficiency ratio (OER) and payroll KPIs, ultimately helps us become a more efficient, competitive company. He’s happy to have been part of that evolution.

“Andy will definitively be missed, shared Mathieu Le Bourhis, CFO, Transdev U.S. “First, Andy probably has one of the best attendance records here in Lombard – he is truly part of our everyday life. I have always appreciated Andy for not only his technical ability, but also for his approach to the work and the way he interacted with his colleagues. We all have in mind the wonderful times we had during the annual barbecues he organized. His positive attitude has always come through, even during the most stressful moments. During his 31-year tenure, he’s made a real impact on our team and on Transdev as a whole and for that I thank him.”

Retirement is something he will need to get used to, but he is well aware of the many projects he has waiting for him at home. He knows he will miss the people at Transdev. He shares that he’s always had the chance to communicate and work with all levels of the company, for which he was fortunate. He adds that over the years, he has truly valued the time he’s spent with operations, including the operators and local staff. He credits that time and those relationships for helping him ultimately do his job even better.

Thank you, Andy, for your contributions to Transdev over the years and we wish you a happy, heathy retirement filled with many new adventures.
