Remembering the Safety Basics: Driver Distraction

Safety Corner

Distractions while driving can be categorized into 3 main types – visual (taking your eyes off the road), manual (taking your hands off the wheel) & cognitive (taking your mind off driving). Engaging in anything outside of driving, while driving, can wait.

Remember to always stay focused. Avoid texting, phone calls, eating, reading or even turning your head to speak to someone while driving. Each of these actions can cause drivers to get distracted, for even a quick moment, and result in an accident.

Health & Safety continues to be the top priority for our employees, passengers and the communities in which we operate. We regularly highlight a general health & safety-focused theme and some related sub-topics to help all of us keep health & safety top-of-mind – whether we are in the field, in an office or at home.
