Remember the basics of strap placement and securement. This is very important when securing passengers in non-standard mobility devices. Be sure to use all of the pieces included in your vehicle’s securement system, which includes: 4 securement straps, a lap belt, and a shoulder belt.
Always begin securing devices by attaching the front securement points first to avoid tipping the mobility device backwards while securing the rear of the device. Be sure not to overtighten securement straps to avoid damage. Know your angles and adjust securement straps with caution and care. Some non-standard mobility devices might need a second securement station or the use of a lap belt extension. Safety First!
