Celebrating Transit Equity Day: How Serving the Common Good Drives Communities Forward

Safety Corner

Every February 4th, Communities across the U.S. recognize Transit Equity Day. This day is the birthday of Rosa Parks and provides a special time to honor her life and work to ensure fair and accessible public transportation for everyone.

It is also a moment to reflect on how transit systems strengthen neighborhoods and support the common good.

Rosa Parks made history in 1955 when she refused to give up her seat on a Montgomery, Alabama, bus. Her action helped start the Montgomery Bus Boycott and became a major turning point in the civil rights movement. Her strength to stand up for unfair treatment helped change unjust laws and inspired people across the country to fight for equality.

Reliable public transit connects people to jobs, schools, healthcare, and important services. Transit Equity Day serves as a reminder that fair access to these opportunities should never depend on someone’s income, race, or neighborhood.  At Transdev, we play a key role in making this happen. By providing safe, reliable, and inclusive transportation, we help communities grow and give people the freedom to move.
