Hispanic Heritage Month Spotlight with Marta Lacko

Safety Corner

Transdev is happy to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by sharing stories of amazing Latino leaders. One of them is Marta Lacko, Senior Operations Manager, for Transdev’s paratransit contract with the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas, Nevada. Marta started working in transportation in 2015. Her first job was answering phones. Then she became a dispatcher and later a supervisor.

Marta did not plan to work in transportation. But she loved helping people get where they needed to go.

“I really love it. I didn’t think it would be my career, but I fell in love with helping others,” she said.

Marta first used public transportation when her family had only one car. She had to take the bus to work. That’s when she saw how important public transportation is. Marta was born in El Salvador. She moved to Florida when she was 10. Learning a new language and living in a new country was hard, but her parents always told her to never give up. Marta learned to work hard and help others.

“Respect goes both ways. Treat people how you want to be treated,” she explained.

Marta uses this rule at work. She helps her team and works with them to get the job done. Marta is part of a special program called the LIT Leadership Academy. She is learning new things like how to manage money and how to be a better leader. She also learned how to help people with mental health problems. She tells her team it’s okay to talk about feelings. She shares helpful videos and programs to support them.

“Talking about mental health can help. Life can be hard, and we need to help each other,” Marta said. “Helping others feels really good. One day, you might need these services too. It feels great to be part of something that helps people.”

Transdev is proud to have leaders like Marta making a big difference in people’s lives every day!
