See Tracks? Think Train® Week Reminds Us of Rail Safety

Safety Corner

Transdev is committed to keeping our people, passengers, and communities safe.  During See Tracks? Think Train® Week (formerly Rail Safety Week), it is important to understand how rail safety practices serve the common good for everyone.

See Tracks? Think Train Week reminds us of the need to keep Safety First! around trains and railroad tracks at all times. According to Operation Lifesaver, Inc., a person or vehicle is hit by a train every three hours in the U.S. This week, we encourage everyone to understand the risks and take steps to protect themselves and others.

Here is how professional drivers can make safe choices around rail property:

  • Stay alert near rail property – avoid distractions such as using a phone or wearing headphones.
  • Only move over tracks at identified crossings.
  • Stop when you see the flashing red lights on a grade crossing signal – this means a train is coming.
  • Never drive around a lowered grade-crossing gate.
  • Never try to beat a train to a crossing.

See Tracks? Think Train Week is about saving lives by making safe choices. Stay alert, respect railroad property, and understand the power and unpredictability of trains, keeps us all train safe. Whether you are driving, walking, or biking, remember that only trains belong on the tracks.
