Keeping our passengers safe is the most important part of transportation. When people use wheelchairs or scooters, we must secure them properly, so they do not move around while the vehicle is moving. This is even more important in winter, when roads can be slippery.
How to Keep Passengers Safe
- Use the Fourt-Point Tie-Down Method– always strap mobility devices in with four strong tie-downs so they stay in place.
- Turn Off Wheelchairs and Scooters– before moving, make sure powered devices are turned off so the do not roll or move on their own.
- Buckle Up- all passengers should wear a seatbelt that is snug and comfortable to keep them safe.
Extra Safety Steps in Winter
Be Careful with Ramps and Lifts– snow and ice can make ramps slippery. Clear off snow and ice before passengers get on.
Watch for Hazards- check the area for icy patches, snowbanks, or anything that could cause a fall before helping passengers in and out.
Help Passengers Stay Steady- passengers using canes, walkers, or wheelchairs may need extra time and support to move safely in snow.
By following these steps, we help keep every passenger safe and comfortable.
