Breast Cancer Awareness Wednesday: Mammography Day/Wear Pink Day

The third Friday in October – October 18 – is recognized as Mammography Day and Wear Pink Day, both designed to promote breast cancer awareness and encourage mammogram appointments. Mammograms are essential breast cancer screening tools that use a low-dose x-ray to help detect breast cancer.

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, the American College of Radiology and the American Cancer Society all recommend mammograms should begin for women at age 40.

It’s estimated that nearly 20 percent more lives could be saved by screening all women at age 40.
