Our Transdev team at Metro Transit in Minneapolis, Minnesota has been busy making a lasting impression on a group of preschoolers that won’t soon be forgotten.
Our driver, Geno Morelli, in Saint Paul, had the pleasure of escorting a group of preschoolers on their weekly transit adventure / field trip.
This group of kids from a local childcare center conduct weekly field trips to explore the city via public transportation, thanks to the encouragement of their teacher. Years back, their teacher used to take her own son on trips on mass transit and thought she’d like to now expose her childcare kids to similar adventures.
The kids take their scooters to the bus stop and off they go on their adventure….expanding their view of the world and the community around them. The kids love exploring. Their public transportation field trips have taken them to the Minnesota State Fair, out for ice cream, to a nearby recreation center, among other destinations.
During this recent ride, the teacher shared a story that one of her students, who lives in a one-car household, suggested her family should take the bus out to dinner when told by her parents that going out for dinner wasn’t an option because their family car was already being used. How’s that for public transit advocacy! One step at a time.
What a great way to expose this next generation to the benefits of public transportation, while ideally creating a new group of long-term riders.
Who knows – maybe there is a future bus operator or transit manager developing in the wings.
