You can’t always prevent or avoid stress, but you can control how you deal with stress.
Whether it’s from everyday deadlines, the work-life balancing act, family or financial struggles, stress has a negative effect on our bodies. Overtime, research has shown that persistent stress increases the likelihood of heart disease.
Devoting a little time every day to care for yourself can go a long way toward helping you destress and protecting the health of your heart.
Try these simple self-care ideas, such as:
- Taking a moment to destress through deep breathing
- Making time to move more – even if it’s just getting up and walking around the block to address the stress of the moment
- Creating a list of some of your favorite things that relax you and make you happy (quick and easy ones like listening to your favorite song during lunch, going outside to enjoy the sunrise or sunset etc.)
- Preparing healthier meals
- Getting quality sleep and incorporating healthy sleep practices (regular bedtime, no electronics, not eating late at night etc.)
