“Remembering the Safety Basics”: Rock & Roll in Your Seat

Safety Corner

This “Remembering the Safety Basicssub-topic highlights a phrase operators learn in training – rocking and rolling in your seat.

Prior to turning the vehicle, operators should physically “rock and roll” forward and back in the driver’s seat to see around their windshield post, mirror heads and other obstructions to the front or the side of their vehicle.

By rocking and rolling in their seats (i.e., moving forward and side-to-side), any obstructed objects can come into view that may otherwise not have been noticed. This basic technique learned in training can help avoid pedestrian or fixed object collisions.

Health & Safety continues to be the top priority for our employees, passengers and the communities in which we operate. We hope these campaigns will help reinforce our H&S commitment with all employees.
