Relay Hits the Streets in Fairfax County

Safety Corner

We are excited to announce that we recently helped our client, Fairfax County, launch passenger service on the first publicly funded Connected Autonomous Vehicle (CAV) pilot project in Virginia. Fairfax County also partnered with Dominion Energy and Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (VDRPT).

The CAV, named ‘Relay’, operates between a local Metrorail station (the Dunn Loring Metrorail Station) and the Mosaic District in the Washington, D.C. metro area. Relay provides an ideal first/last mile transportation solution to the area.

The service launched at the end of October with a ceremonial ribbon cutting and the boarding of some invited dignitaries and members of the general public.

We were proud to bring not only our expertise to this project, but also the extensive AV experience we have working with EasyMile (the vehicle manufacturer). This is a wonderful example of the great innovation that can come from a strong public-private partnership.
