Our Fulton County operations around Atlanta saw a need and were quick to respond.
Under normal circumstances, our Fulton County paratransit services, Fulton County Department of Senior Services, transport seniors in the Atlanta area to their local senior centers. However, since the coronavirus outbreak, those senior centers have closed in an effort to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. The result: some of those seniors are left in their homes, alone.
Our Fulton County operations coordinated with our client and decided to use our buses and our drivers to deliver much needed food and hot meals to these homebound seniors. This wonderful community effort not only helps the seniors, but it also provides our drivers with some additional work during this ongoing crisis. Wednesday, alone, 170 meals were delivered, and this effort will continue.
Transdev’s Fulton County driver Sandra Jordan said “driving the seniors is so rewarding and delivering them meals is the next best thing. It just touches my heart some of them can’t get out and we are able to give them something to eat.” Sandra Jordan has been driving for Transdev and Fulton County Department of Senior Services for nine years.
As part of this service, the drivers are focused on observing the CDC’s social distancing recommendations to ensure they stay safe, while making sure the seniors are safe as well.
During this unprecedented time, Transdev remains aware of the need for life sustaining services beyond public transportation in the communities that we serve. And, because we are well positioned with equipment and personnel to aid in delivery of essential services in our communities, we will continue to offer assistance to our communities in the form of delivering much needed resources.
